The European Adhesive Specialist (EAS) course gives you in-depth insight into the properties of adhesives, materials and surfaces and how to apply that knowledge in production and quality assurance. You will learn how to select the right adhesive, monitor processes and identify and correct deviations in real-world scenarios. Theoretical lessons are continuously combined with practical exercises, allowing you to connect the content directly to realistic situations from the industry.
Upon completion, you’ll have the knowledge and skills to guide colleagues, improve processes, and consistently raise the quality of adhesive bonds. The program covers a wide range of topics, including:
- Adhesive types & material properties
- Loads, stress distribution & design principles
- Failure analysis and inspection methods.

What does the
course include?
The European Adhesive Specialist program consists of three intensive one-week modules, where theory and practice go hand in hand. You’ll cover topics such as adhesion, surface preparation, durability, and quality management, supported by practical exercises and laboratory testing.
During the training, you will create test samples, conduct experiments, and learn how to evaluate and adjust process parameters. Each module concludes with a written exam, and the course finishes with an oral examination. Upon successful completion, you’ll receive the internationally recognized diploma EWF 662 EAS, demonstrating your ability to organize, control, and improve adhesive bonding processes.

Is this course
suitable for you?
The European Adhesive Specialist program is designed for professionals who are responsible for adhesive bonding processes and production quality in their daily work. This includes supervisors in manufacturing, engineers, and quality personnel who make decisions regarding adhesive types, surface treatments, and process control.
Participants must have at least a technical secundary vocational education (MBO or equivalent) and a minimum of two years of practical experience. For those with a higher professional (HBO) or academic (WO) background (often referred to in Belgium as a professional or academic bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or chemistry) the program is an even better fit.

Frequently asked questions about EAS training
In what language is the program taught?
The training is provided in both Dutch and English, with Dutch or English language teaching materials.
How is the training assessed?
Each week concludes with a written test. In addition, you’ll complete a practical exam using self-made test specimens, and finish the program with an oral examination.
How large are the groups?
The program is intentionally kept small, with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12 participants per group. This ensures personal guidance and ample time for hands-on assignments.
What does the course content include?
The three modules cover adhesion, curing mechanisms, bonding properties of materials, surface treatment, quality management and durability, among other topics. Each module contains both theory and practical assignments. More information can be found in the brochure retrieval.
How demanding is the training alongside my job?
The EAS program consists of three full-time weeks spread over 2 to 3 months. Between modules, there’s time to absorb what you’ve learned and apply it in practice.
Can I participate if I don’t fully meet the admission requirements?
Yes, you can. In consultation with the NIL Adhesive Bonding Examination Committee, you may be allowed to join as an observer or first complete the EAB program and then enter through an admission exam. Even in that case, the total study load remains three weeks.
