Since 2012, Lijmacademie has been providing training courses for Adhesive Bonder. This level is particularly intended for company employees, who regularly perform adhesive work on the basis of work instructions, with or without direct supervision. Over the years, a training method has been developed, fully tailored to the target group, with optimal learning effect.

Purpose of the training
Participants are trained in the use of adhesive techniques in an industrial production environment. The training provides a fundamental understanding of adhesive technology so that the special aspects of the adhesive process are understood and taken into account while performing adhesive work. The relevant consistency and importance of work instructions become clear. After successful completion of this training course, participants will be able to perform adhesive work independently, as a true professional, in a technically sound manner.
Duration of training and examination
The Adhesive Bonder training is full-time and lasts 40 hours (1 week) including examination. To support the learning process, theory is alternated with practical exercises. The training is completed with a practical, written and oral exam.
Target group and conditions for participation
The target group includes employees of adhesive-processing or adhesive-producing companies, who carry out adhesive work independently, based on (written) work instructions. Participants must have good skills of the Dutch language, so that they understand the training material properly and are able to take the exams.
Training content
Basic concepts
The course starts by covering basic concepts in adhesive technology. Here, adhesives are compared with other joining techniques. The integrity of an adhesive bond is explained using the conceptual model of bonding forces. Similarly, the factors influencing the quality of the adhesive bond are explained. Participants gain knowledge about the fundamental aspects of the properties of adhesives and adhesive bonds.
Adhesive types
In this part of the training course, participants are introduced to the most important adhesive types used in the industry, as well as their properties and areas of application. Emphasis is placed on the importance of applying these different adhesive types correctly, under the right curing conditions. These aspects are further substantiated through practical exercises.
Surface treatment
Appropriate surface treatment is of utmost importance for a good and especially durable adhesive bond. The course introduces surface techniques commonly performed by professionals as part of the adhesive bonding process. Practical experiments give participants the necessary experience in applying surface treatment techniques to different materials/adhesive parts. Particular attention will be paid to the use of primers and adhesion improvers.
Measurement methods
During the practical session, adhesive samples are made and then tested on common test equipment. Evaluation of bond strength and failure behaviour helps to get a feel for possible errors in the adhesive process and their consequences. This information is an important supplement to the theory.
Production Engineering
Participants are introduced to the fundamentals of both manual and automated adhesive processes in a production environment. They also learn to recognise and prevent causes of errors.
Health and environment
Learn the principles around recognising potential hazards when working with adhesives and solvents used in industrial adhesive processes. The importance of using
